Chemistry is the science of materials, Their properties, and how they react with each other. All materials are made of atoms. Why do some atoms combine with each other while other atoms do not? Because atoms just want to be happy! Atoms tend to be more stable, or "happy," when they have certain numbers of electrons whizzing around their cores. Where do they find extra Electrons if they need more to be happy? From other atoms that have too many Electrons, of course! When atoms share or exchange Electrons to be happy, they stick together. Happy atoms form molecules! This physical and digital kit lets you discover the world of molecules in an intuitive, hands-on way. Using a set of 17 Atom models representing 6 different elements, you can assemble your own molecular models. The atoms stick together easily with magnets: metal tips on the ends of rubbery arms, which represent free Electrons, snap onto magnetic bonding sites on the Atom spheres, which represent empty spots for Electrons in the atom's outermost Electron shell. But how do you know what the molecule you've snapped together is? You use the included app for iPad and iPhone to snap its picture, and the app uses state-of-the-art image recognition technology to identify the molecule. The app recognizes tens of thousands of molecules and presents detailed information about 120 of the most important ones, such as a molecule's usage, properties, hazards, formula, and structure. The app takes you on guided quests to discover new molecules and learn about them, and you can also track your progress, collecting sets of molecules that you have built and explored. Many people think of chemistry as complicated and hard to grasp. New technology Now enables us to take this innovative approach to teaching chemistry, making it more tangible and instinctive than ever before. Requires iPad or iPhone.

My son asked for this gift & loves it
I was surprised when my six-year-old son requested this gift for Christmas. He explained that he had downloaded the app but needed the actual set in order to use the app. Since he has an affinity for the sciences, I complied with his request and got him the Introductory set. Today is December 27 and this was by far his favorite gift, even though his grandparents got him a great microscope, too! I figured nothing could compare to the microscope, but I was wrong. He has played with this set of atoms for HOURS and even got other kids who have no familiarity with atoms or molecules to play with it, too. Even his grandparents got in on the action. At Christmas dinner, he had EVERYONE voting on whether or not a particular combination of atoms would be accepted or not. I particularly like the fact that the app works without the internet because he wants to take the set everywhere. He has already asked if he can have the complete set soon. I'll definitely get it as soon as I can afford it. I know he will love taking this set to school so he and his teacher can use it. Despite his age, his teachers believe in fostering his varied interests.

So great!
We got this for my 10 year old daughter for her birthday. We played with it a ton and she liked it so much that she used her birthday money to then get the full set too! Great product and super educational.

Excellent gift for 9 yr old
It went down very well, and now he wants the more complex version, and loves it, and made him so happy to build molecules and discover new compounds. I was never taught about atoms, molecules, electrons, and chemical bonds at this age. Now he knows the foundation.

The app really makes this set work
It is a great product to get kids interested in molecules, bonds and chemistry. The introductory set seems to have very few actual atoms, but one can combine them in many different ways to make one of the 500 or so molecules. My daughter really liked the app part, since she could make molecules and then look them up. That is really when the learning happened. Just having some atoms and putting them together without the app would not have lasted for very long. I do think the price is high for a few uses. It might be better priced for a class where many kids can make use of the set.

By far my daughter's favorite Christmas gift
My 11 yr-old daughter spent all day on Christmas working with this set and ignored the rest of her gifts. Everything 'worked', including the Android app, with zero issues. This morning the very first thing she asked for more atoms. Unfortunately, I bought the introductory set and will now have to purchase the complete set, as it appears you can't just purchase additional supplementary atoms. My advice--get the complete set right off the bat. I probably will order (sigh) as I see the value in this material, it is fun learning and gaining knowledge that she will use throughout school.

Danger, watch your feet!
There are next to no chemistry basics to explain the atoms and why they go together. What’s a neutron, proton, electron? So, pretty much an expensive “lego” set for young kids (7-10). For older kids, the app interface lacks much interactivity. There’s no talking. The cartoon characters make grunting noises. Again, no chemistry is explained. You stick the atoms together to make a molecule and then it says what the molecule is and a few details about it. I can’t quite figure out the age range for this product. If the app had more chemistry and taught kids, it could be a huge hit. Given where it is now, it’s like my kids lego sets. Strewn all over the floor and a hazard to my feet.

Better to know a bit about atoms, energy levels and how to connect to some other atoms????
Great grandkids loved it. The did study the basics of atoms and molecules etc. first, they are all under ten years old but science oriented.

Cool idea but the app is garbage and that is the whole point to this set.
Complete garbage for $80.. you need to download and app and the APP IS TRASH!!! 1* rating on google play for the app, it was incompatible. I DL the app on my phone and its useless. its doesn't respond at all.Keeps showing oxygen molecules as carbon and vice versa and Unfortunately i'm over my return time so i'm suck with a few pieces of 80 dollar garbage till they get their app running correctly, if ever.. wont be buying from them ever again...

nice, but overpriced
In my opinion, the set is way overpriced. Otherwise it is a good way to teach kids chemistry. I do recommend the set, but only at sale prices or with great discounts.
